Waterman’s Parrot Fountain Pen Desk Set, c.1901

Every so often I look for interesting antique inkwells (and such) for my desk. What attracted me to this was the finely detailed, red cold painted parrot on a sculptural bronze pen tray with ink well; a really pretty piece that adds a small splash of color when displayed with my wooden cameras.
The original felt pad marked “Waterman’s Fountain Pen Desk Set, Patent applied for. Made in U.S.A.” is still intact.
I’m now looking for the ‘correct’ vintage pen and bronze blotter with parrot handle that would have been included with the set.
Does anyone have any information on this inkwell? Picked it up at a sell the other day, just thought it was interesting. Thanks
Murano glass / Pen & Pencil set.

These belonged to my father and being the Calligrapher. Who else to end up w/ them and all the trimmings ! I use them all too ! It's how I sign my checks. To avoid forge ! And of coarse to show off my articulate penmanship !
If anyone might know the value of this set please let me know !
I've only seen the pen but not the pencil which both came in its box together. I don't know about the hand blown container it sits in or the one the pencil fits in along w/ the glass tray w/circles and a lip for ink bottle to sit in securely. This has always looked like what's depicted in the pics. And is one if my favorite treasures. It also inspired me to restore the desk it sits on.
Italian GLASS Pen - Writing Instrument
I was left these two pens and was curious if anyone can tell me anything about them?

I am hoping that someone can give ma an idea on a fair asking price for these two pens.
I realize photos are not quality but it was the best I could get. I also have a gold pen with an amethyst in the top of it but has been misplaced.
Please advise if you have knowledge. They have no discoloration and look to be gold. Thanks

Tibaldi for Bentley Continental Dark Sapphire Ballpoint Pen

Tibaldi for Bentley Continental: Tibaldi proudly introduces the Bentley Continental limited edition pen collection. In recent years the success and international appeal of the Continental series has far surpassed that enjoyed by any other series in Bentley’s history. The Continental collection by Tibaldi emulates all the tactile qualities and finish of the Continental GT. Both the writing instruments and their imaginative casing are likely to captivate Bentley owners and writing instrument collectors in equal measure.
Precious and Collectible: Tibaldi introduced Italy’s first fountain pen in 1916. Ever since, people from all walks of life have savored Tibaldi’s precious, reliable and collectible writing instruments. The Continental collection by Tibaldi for Bentley was designed by Robin Page, Head of Interior Design at Bentley. The Continental collection by Tibaldi for Bentley offers a design that emulates all the tactile qualities and finish of the Continental GT. The lacquered barrel with knurled bands reflects the reassuring quality of the switchgear found in the car’s rich interior, whilst the engraved retaining clip features the prominent Bentley typeface found in the engine bay. The color options match the car’s most popular exterior paint colors for ultimate suitability. Unique packaging for the range mimics the car’s centre armrest and enables the writing instruments to be securely stowed in a bespoke trimmed compartment.”
Tibaldi - A Pen of Divine Proportions: Phi, the concept known as the Divine Proportion, informs every aspect of the structure of all Tibaldi pens. For example, the proportion between the pen’s cap and the visible portion of the barrel when the pen is closed equals the phi ratio, 1.618.
Bentley Aesthetic: The etching and engraving known as knurling is well-known by Bentley drivers. Always found on functional handles and buttons such as indicators, media system controls and gear shifts, knurling ensures a secure grip. Knurling is echoed on all parts of the Bentley Continental by Tibaldi writing instruments that require holding or turning – such as the lid and the lower part of the barrel.
Continental Casing: The Bentley Continental by Tibaldi writing instruments are presented in sumptuous leather cases, which echo the shape of the twin armrests of the Bentley Continental. Inside the armrests of every Bentley Continental is a compartment holding a tray. The pen inserts of Bentley Continental by Tibaldi cases stow neatly into the compartments and onto the tray, allowing Bentley owners to keep their writing instrument in the car while driving and ensuring it rests in one position.

The cap and barrel of the Bentley Continental by TIBALDI writing instruments are fashioned from aluminum and the trims are palladium plated. The first 2 pictures is montblanc meisterstuck pen, 3rd picture is montblanc fountain pen and the 4th picture is a cross with box. I think they are all just out of ink.
I would appreciate any advise you can give me.

Very cool Parker / Phinney Walker

A very neat desk set that came complete with a Parker Challenger (undated) and has the very sexy Phinney Walker 30hr clock with pullcord winding. The mount is made from red oak that has retained a lovely warm brown tone. It sports the original green baize felt bottom. The pen has 14k Parker nib, button filler, and has been fully restored.
The Phinney Walker clock some may recognize as an automobile clock, though the case is clearly original and designed for this deskset. I've had the clock professionally restored and now it keeps perfect time. The photo may not show it, but the clock is without any noticeble wear or damage...Another treasured junkshop find.
If anyone has any info on similar desksets, I'd appreciate it as I've been unable to pin down the year or even the maker.
R-Rated Ink Pen

I remember my dad having one of these pens back in the late 1950's or early 60's. When the pen is up-right, the swimsuit is "on", turn it over and the swimsuit slides off. Googleing anything with "naked" and "woman" together get all wrong results!
I've had this one forever, seems like it came in a box of junk from a garage sale. Any idea what the proper title would be and what it's worth?
Trench Art Ink Well

Here is a neat trench art ink well. It is approximately 7" square and is a thin sheet of brass that has been hammered and shaped into a nice leaf pattern supported by four small caliber projectiles. The actual ink well is a large caliber projectile. Really neat piece.
Thanks for looking.

My favorite Desk set

This 1936 Parker model BB desk set in black glass and chrome is a true art deco treasure with matching 1936 vacumatic lockdowns in silver stripe. Complete and original, this desk set is featured in Parker's 1936 catalogue retailing for the princely sum of $18.00 plus the pens. Special features include the "Sealomatic Socket" which not only tilts horizontally to prevent the pen from draining into the socket, but also has a snap in retainer that holds the pen in tight to prevent drying out. Both pens are made in Canada, 4th quarter, 1936 with original 14k nibs. This Deskset sits proudly on my 19c rosewood spinnet desk and is just outstanding enough to hold it's own. Traded an art deco Girard Perregaux wrist watch for it in a small antique shop. I use one of these pens daily, the other was professionally restored by Ron Zorn, and will likely remain uninked.
VERY COOL PEN!!PLEASE HELP ANY INFO ABOUT IT WOULD BE GREAT!
What is this?
Did this hold older types of pens ? How can I clean it safely ?

I think this is pen related, the empty compartment must have been to hold ink or a blotter ? Would you have stacked pens vertically/horizontally on the little arms ?
It is about 6" wide x about 5" high.
The design looks arts & crafty.
How do I clean it without hurting anything ? The patina thing still throws me.
Any help is appreciated.

Marshall Field & Co. Bronze Inkwell, probably 1920s

Hmmm ... yet another vintage inkwell for my desk. (I’m amazed how this sub-collection is slowly growing and starting to crowd out my work laptop.) It was acquired in February while we were wandering around Florida’s gulf coast ... after all, who wouldn’t want to briefly get away from really cold upper midwest weather at some point.
Anyhow, as far as inkwells go it is large at 5½” in diameter by 4” tall. Being marked “Made by Marshall Field & Co.” (a Chicago company) also made it interesting. Yet it was the overall design, size and condition that made it attractive; it has a lot of presence.
The entire piece is beautifully made and a fine patina has developed over the years. The deeply sculpted lid depicting two horses and riders has a Greek or Roman fresco feel.
And what makes this a doubly interesting piece is discovering what lies beneath the lid. Instead of the usual glass cone or cup shaped insert, within is a sophisticated inkwell designed and patented by Gustav Sengbusch. In other words, the Marshall Field bronze is actually a decorative case housing a rather ugly yet effective glass and hard rubber ‘inkstand’.
Sengbusch invented and patented his famous “Self-Casing Inkstand” in 1903 and set up a company, the Sengbusch Self-Closing Inkstand Co., in Milwaukee, WI. Sengbusch’s improvement to ordinary inkwells was to add a floating stopper that kept the ink clean (no dust or dirt) as well as preventing accidental spilling. This particular inkstand has a 1914 patent date and it appears to be a less common No.62 model. By 1920 Sengbusch was advertising 115 different designs and sizes!
Anyhow, my desk is now getting a bit crowded with this addition.
