DEALERS DESCRIPTION (AND PICTURES)
An Opalescent Glass Owl Inkwell. I have seen similar pieces described as Kralik and also Loetz, but there seems to be quite a lot of confusion & misunderstanding about the different glass makers around 1900. A beautiful piece in excellent condition; amazingly, it still has the original china lining to the inkwell. The top appears to be made of brass but the lid itself has been nickel plated. The eyes are glass. The width is 125mm (4& 7/8”) & the height is 65 mm, 2 ½ “.
FIGURAL INKWELL TOPS ARE EXTREMELY RARE. THIS IS THE FIRST OWL CAP I HAVE EVER FOUND ON A CZECH INKWELL (THIS HAPPENS TO BE, AFTER MANY DETOURS, PALLME KONIG). BUT IN ORDER TO PROVE IT, I HAD TO GET ANOTHER ONE (LAST PIC.). THE DECOR ON THE LATTER ONE WILL BE FAMILIAR TO THOSE WHO COLLECT CZECH INKWELLS (MORE ABOUT IT LATER).
IT'S COMING FROM AUSTRALIA, WHICH MAKES IT DOUBLY SWEET (KEVIN, MARTY, SELENE, ANNE)
